The upper half of the German Wine Route.
The "Mittelhaardt" region stretches from the House of the German Wine Route in Bockenheim to the middle of the Wine Route, where on the edge of the Haardt the Hambach Castle can be seen from far away above the Neustadt districts of Hambach and Diedesfeld. Along the way are also our eight villages of the Freinsheim holiday region.
The Mittelhaardt stands for world-famous vineyards, representative wineries - some of them castle-like in size, location and shape - and of course for the Riesling, the most famous and also most typical grape variety of the Palatinate. But by far not only, because the area is characterized by numerous castles or their ruins, which once protected the now historic wine villages with their Renaissance and Baroque architecture.
The Mittelhaardt impresses with superlatives such as the largest wine festival in the world, the "Wurstmarkt", and the world's largest wine barrel in Bad Dürkheim and is also the cradle of Advent time, because in 1038 on the Limburg the present Advent Sundays were established for the entire Christian Occident.
From the Freinsheim holiday region, you can easily explore the entire Mittelhaardt region. We have compiled a selection of what there is to see in our direct neighbourhood.
